Octav Teioşanu s-a născut la Darabani în 1957. A studiat şi predat istoria timp de aproape 30 de ani la şcolile din Darabani. Cartea sa îmbină stilul editorial, uneori filosofic, cu rigoarea ştiinţifică, fiind susţinută de o bibliografie impresionantă.
Mai jos găsiţi şi o scurtă inventariere a celorlalte scrieri monografice la care oamenii de cultură dărăbăneni au lucrat de-a lungul ultimelor două secole.
Prima monografie a oraşului a fost scrisă de învăţătorul Gheorghe Vornicescu în 1924, aceasta stând la baza tuturor scrierilor asemănătoare de mai târziu. Pentru mulţi ani, această monografie a fost ţinută în arhiva Şcolii Generale nr. 1 din Darabani, dar urma i s-a pierdut după 1970.
Următoarea lucrare monografică datează din 1937. Ea poartă numele “Din trecutul Darabanilor”, a fost scrisă de avocatul Emil Costeanu, iar originalul există şi acum într-o colecţie privată din Darabani.
În 1940, învăţătorul Gheorghe Gârneaţă (fratele lui Ilie Gârneaţă, întemeietorul Mişcării Legionare) scrie şi el o monografie, intitulată “Darabani – file de monografie”.
În 1969 apare manuscrisul “Darabani de-a lungul anilor”, la care au lucrat mai mulţi autori, la cererea autorităţilor locale.
“Monografia comunei Darabani” a fost scrisă de preotul Neculai Amălinei după 1950.
Jurnalistul Ilie Stoleru scrie şi el “Darabani de-a lungul timpului”, în 1976.
În 2006, Dumitru Haha Voicăuţi lansează “Darabani – contribuţii pentru o monografie”, citând informaţii din manuscrisele păstrate în arhivele locale.
