„Condei de junior” este o rubrică semnată de elevii Școlii Generale „Leon Dănăilă” din Darabani, pasionați de istorie locală, interesați de a învăța secretele scrisului și dornici să facă și altora cunoscute poveștile pe care ei le descoperă.
Oscar Wilde supunea „Nimeni nu este destul de bogat să îşi cumpere trecutul”. Noi suntem singurii care pot să îşi lase în urmă o imagine frumos pictată pe paginile istoriei. Trecutul dureros a transformat unii oameni în laşi, iar pe alţii în adevăraţi eroi. Unul dintre aceşti luptători pentru dreptate şi patrie a fost Costache Gheorghiţă, născut în localitatea Horodiştea şi caporal în Al Doilea Război Mondial.
În paginile şterse ale istoriei descoperim că vede lumina zilei pe data de 4 septembrie 1913 în localitatea Horodiştea, raionul Darabani. Cu tatăl originar din Miorcani, Vasile Gheorghiţă, şi mama, Maria, soră cu Ilie şi Ileana Săftiuc din Horodiştea, eroul nostru a cunoscut o viaţă dificilă încă din timpul copilăriei, urmând perioda războiului, foametea şi anii în care comunismul a stăpânit patria. Acesta a găsit liniştea sufletească în 2011 când a plecat dintre cei vii.
De mic cunoaşte durerea cauzată de moartea timpurie a părinţilor şi este dat în grija mătuşii sale, Ileana Săftiuc, care i-a fost tutore. Mai târziu avea să cunoască din nou acestă durere când fratele său mai mare, Ion, moare în războiul dus de mulţi soldaţi precum Costache pentru apărarea patriei. Povestea se repetă şi Ion Gheorghiţă lasă în urmă trei copii, pe Gheorghiţă, Lenuţa şi Aspazia, care i-au uitat până şi chipul.
Eroul de pe frontul din Crimeea sau Odessa s-a căsătorit la vârsta de 28 de ani cu Valeria Grosuleac, fiica lui Costache Grosuleac din satul Slobozia. Între cei doi era o diferenţă de opt ani. Odată plecat pe front, a lăsat o tânără femeie şi un copil născut în 1943 să ducă pe umeri greutăţile vremii.

in scrisorile trimise acasă reiese dragostea şi grija pe care acesta o purta, dar şi neliniştea din sufletele tuturor. Acesta se interesa de fetiţă, de mersul recoltelor şi din rândurile scrise mai apărea puţină linişte şi speranţă. Întreţinuse o corespondenţă şi cu fratele său care urma să devină unul dintre sufletele căzute pe front pe altarul patriei. Nu s-a plâns de frigul nemilos sau de teribilele scene de luptă unde totul era pe viaţă şi pe moarte, ci începea scrisorile cu „sunt bine sănătos până în prezent”. În perioada 14.12.1542 – 31.12.1942 a stat în spital din cauza degerăturilor de gradul I pricinuite de iarna grea care învăluia războiul crud şi rece. Acesta povestise copiilor cum fusese forţat să lupte împotriva inamicilor, frigului şi foamei. A trebuit să lupte desculţ, de aici apărând şi degerăturile din decembrie 1942. S-a hrănit cu coji de carfof şi în ciuda situaţiei nu arăta slăbiciunea în faţa rudelor de acasă. Pentru apărarea patriei a primit ordinul de a omorî fiecare soldat inamic care îi ieşea în cale. De asemenea, a învăţat de la camarazii săi cântece şi poezii pe care le recita nepoţilor în anii săi de bătrâneţe.
Întors definitiv acasă pe data de 15.01.1945 acesta a devenit un muncitor al pământului şi a fost mereu un om onest. A avut 6 copii,doi murind la o vârstă fragedă. Cea mai mare, Maria Gheorghiţă (căs. Marianciuc) este în prezent pensionară, dedicându-şi viaţa instruirii elevilor a fost profesoară de matematic, lucrând o lungă perioadă la o casă de copii din Botoşani. Cea de-a doua fată, Valeria Gheorghiţă este şi ea în prezent pensionară, lucrând ca educatoare în anii tinerenţii la Grădiniţa din Broscăuţi. Cea de-a treia, Emilia Gheorghiţă (căs. Aionesei) a lucrat timp de 35 de ani ca asistentă medicală în oraşul Darabani,iar acum este pensionată. Cea de-a patra fiică, Coca Gheorghiţă (căs. Socianu) locuieşte în satul Horodiştea.
Luptătorii precum eroul din aceste rânduri sunt un imbold pentru noi de a descoperi de este ascuns în apropierea noastră şi de a vedea poveştile nespuse ale Darabaniului. Din aceste poveşti putem învăţa că viaţa este mai presus de noi şi trebuie să fim mândri dacă reuşim să păstrăm în ciuda necazurilor omenia şi seninătatea din sufletul nostru.
