„Condei de junior” este o rubrică semnată de elevii Școlii Generale „Leon Dănăilă” din Darabani, pasionați de istorie locală, interesați de a învăța secretele scrisului și dornici să facă și altora cunoscute poveștile pe care ei le descoperă.
„Şcoala nu este un institut de învăţătură, ci un templu ai cărui preoţi sunt profesorii.” (Regele Carol al- II -lea)
La Darabani istoria „templului” începe în secolul al XIX-lea, odată cu prima școală sătească de stat din Moldova. Aceasta s-a înființat în anul 1841, pe 21 martie, în urma cererii logăfătului Theodor Balș, proprietarul moșiei Darabani. Cursurile școlii au început la 1 septembrie 1841 cu elevi, cu vârste între 13 și 17 ani. Se susține că primul local al școlii ar fi fost amplasat lângă cel de-al treilea rând de ziduri ale conacului, spre sud-est, la circa 300 de metri de reședința lui Balș .
Al doilea local de școală a fost instalat în casele văduvei Pugernița, sub supravegherea preotului Gheorghiescu. În anul 1866 se transferă la Darabani normalistul Gheorghe Tomaziu, o personalitate a învățământului din județul Dorohoi, care pune școala din Darabani pe noi făgașe.
Anul 1871 a reprezentat un eveniment de cotitură în învățământul dărăbănean: școala are un local propriu, rod al eforturilor materiale financiare și fizice ale locuitorilor din Darabani. În aprilie 1877, se deschide și o școală de fete sub conducerea Aglaiei Tomaziu, unde accentul se pune pe lucrul de mână. La 1 septembrie 1904 se dă în folosință o nouă clădire cu 4 săli de clasă și cancelarie. În 1945 se înființează un gimnaziu unic care va funcționa la Castelul lui Theodor Balș, în anexele unde cândva a fost atelier de fierărie.
În 1964 se construiește un nou local cu 8 săli de clasă si laborator de chimie, actualul sediu al Școlii Gimnaziale „Leon Dănăilă”. La vremea aceea însă clădirea ținea de „Școala Medie Mixtă”, precursoarea liceului de la Darabani, care se va desprinde în timp de școala gimnazială.
Școala „Leon Dănăilă”
Cetățean de onoare al orașului nostru, doctor în medicină din 1973, medic primar neurochirug, profesor universitar și membru al Academiei Române, Leon Dănăilă este născut în 1933, la 1 iulie. Lui îi mulțumim astăzi că școala îi poartă numele. Această decizie a fost luată în dată de 24 aprilie 2001, când Consiliul de administrație al școlii a decis in unanimitate de voturi ca școala să-i adopte numele.
„Școala nu poate avea decât două scopuri . Primul e să dăm copilului cunoștințe generale de care bineînțeles, va avea nevoie să se servească : aceasta este instrucția. Cealaltă e să pregătim copilul de azi pentru omul de mâine, și aceasta este educația” spunea Gaston Berger .
Minunea Școlii „Leon Dănăilă” este aceea de a reliza formarea inițială și continuă a tinerilor pentru satisfacerea nevoilor județului . Pentru realizarea acestei misiuni, școala se bucură de sprijin din partea autorității locale și județene privind facilitatea investițiilor și condițiilor materiale.
Pe băncile acestea roase de generațiile de copii și de negura vremurilor s-au perindat multe personalițăți printre care : înv. Iancu Duzinschi, acad. dr. Leon Dănăilă, prof. Gheorghe Cliveti, poetul Victor Teișanu, istoricul Dorin Dobrincu.
Deși o școală mare cu mai multe structuri ( Bajura, Teioasa, Eșanca, Cornești, Lismănița, Luconița), problema natalității din zilele noastre și plecarea masivă a cetățenilor peste hotare a făcut ca unele dintre acestea să fie închise (Școala Lucovița, Cornești, Eșanca, Lișmănița ).
Mari profesori sau învățători au îndreptat pașii mei și pe ai altora pentru ceea ce sunt azi și poate vom fi mâine . Amintesc pe: d-na Ilaș Saveta, d-nul Ilaș Gheorghe, d-nul Hrițcu Ioan, d-na Ionel Maria, d-nul Petru Bivoleanu , d-na Avasiloaie Elena, d-na Pop Despina, d-na Ursuleanu Gheorghina, d-na Dumitrel Lucica, d-nul Sfleclă Stelian, d-nul Anechitoaei Petru.
În viață toți şi toate sunt trecătoare, dar ceea ce ar putea râmâne după ce ai uitat tot ceea ce ai învățat în școală ar fi educația .
