Otilia Bălinișteanu, născută la Concești și absolventă a Facultății de Jurnalism și Științele Comunicării (Iași, Universitatea „Al.I.Cuza”), practică gazetăria de peste un deceniu. Ca ziaristă a parcurs și un curs de specializare în Franța, iar în țară a lucrat deja în câteva redacții importante.
Din 2005, încă de la primul număr, realizează la Iași, împreună cu ceilalți redactori, Ziarul Lumina, ediția pentru Moldova. Nu e o publicație oarecare: prin Centrul de Presă Basilica, acest ziar, devenit primul nostru cotidian creștin, este păstorit de însăși Patriarhia Română. După zece ani de trudă gazetărească, iat-o pe Otilia Bălinișteanu în centrul atenției publice. Într-o frumoasă seară de octombrie, sub cupola Teatrului Național din Iași, pe o scenă pe care trec rând pe rând academicieni și universitari, oameni de știință și de cultură, scriitori și artiști, dar și reprezentanți ai clerului, în frunte cu Înaltpreasfințitul Părinte Teofan, Mitropolitul Moldovei și Bucovinei, Otilia primește cel mai râvnit trofeu al breslei gazetărești: Premiul de Excelență în Jurnalism. Înmânându-i premiul, Prof. univ. dr. Daniel Condurache rostește, între altele, ceva memorabil: că de-a lungul anilor articolele Otiliei s-au aglutinat într-o veritabilă Operă, din care „putem reconstitui oglinda Iașiului cultural de ieri și de astăzi”.
Pentru că Otilia Bălinișteanu ilustrează genul ziaristului de valoare, hărăzit cu sensibilitate artistică și capabil, în veșnica goană a timpului, să decanteze esențe, încrustându-și cuvintele direct în pagina de istorie. Un ziarist care, între sutele de confrați ieșeni, chiar contează și are ceva de comunicat semenilor. Nu întâmplător Preafericitul Părinte Patriarh Daniel și-a dat înalta-i binecuvântare pentru ca 16 interviuri de colecție realizate, în timp, de Otilia, să fie tipărite într-un volum, intitulat „Taifasuri cu tâlc” și apărut anul acesta sub egida editurii Trinitas.
Sunt interviuri cu diverse personalități contemporane, exponențiale pentru spațiul moldav, de la cadre universitare, savanți și scriitori, până la etnologi, medici, jurnaliști sau fețe bisericești. Se știe, interviul este o specie jurnalistică dificilă, presupunând minuțioasă documentare prealabilă și o adevărată artă a întrebărilor. În așa fel încât interlocutorul să-ți ofere răspunsurile așteptate, care să-l definească nu doar pe el, ci și subiectul abordat. Contează enorm naturalețea dialogului, eliminarea senzației de artificial și contrafăcut, vizibile adesea în interviurile neinspirate. La Otilia Bălinișteanu conversația decurge firesc, fără sforțări și sincope.
