Facem din nou referiri la istorie şi trebuie să mai amintim câteva repere cel puţin interesante care ţin de Darabani.
O curiozitate locală este şi faptul că, după 1860, Eugeniu Alcaz, unul din arendaşii moşiei Darabani, a adus din nordul Africii două cămile, pentru a le folosi în agricultură.
În Darabani a fost fondată prima şcoală sătească de stat din Moldova (1841), acest act fiind considerat “un caz special” datorită rigorilor vremii.
Apoi, pornind de la data primei atestări oficiale cu numele de Căbiceni(1546), trebuie amintită o afirmaţie pe care am găsit-o interesantă. În cartea sa “Vuiau Codrii Moldovei”, o operă pur literară fără teze fundamentate ştiinţific, autorul Radu Vişan menţionează la pagina 130, faptul că la Darabani “au luat şi clopotul de la biserica lui sfântul Niculai, de au sleit arama pentru vârfuri de săgeţi”. Acest comentariu se face în contextul anului 1476, când sultanul Mahomed atacă Moldova cu o mulţime de oştire. Deci anul 1476 nu numai că este înaintea apariţiei oficiale a numelui de Darabani dar chiar şi înainte de atestarea documentară a Căbiceniului.
În momentul conflictului dintre evrei şi dărăbăneni, existau în oraş 3 locaşe de cult ortodox şi 8 sinagogi.
În 1896, învăţătorul Ion Postolache culege din Darabani un pluguşor considerat de Nicolae Densuşianu, care-l publică în Revista Critică-Literară (1896), cel mai valoros dintre cele trimise din restul ţării, în cadrul anchetei sociologice pe care o efectua pe această temă.
Cei 4 stejari din pădurea învecinată oraşului au o legendă interesantă. Se spune că Ştefan cel Mare, întorcându-se învingător după lupta cu tătarii de la Lipnic (1469), ar fi plantat pe un deal de lângă Căbiceni, ca mulţumire lui Dumnezeu, 4 ghinde sub formă de cruce dinc are au rezultat cei 4 stejari seculari de astăzi.
Prima publicaţie tipărită la Darabani este realizată de către evrei în 1931: ea se intitula “Haschachar” (Zorile)
Constantin Simirad, fostul primar al Iaşiului şi actualul preşedinte al Consiliului Judeţean Iaşi, a jucat în prima echipă de fotbal a oraşului, “Vulturul Darabani”.
În 1955, în ciuda politicii comuniste, biserica Sf. Nicolae este desemnată monument istoric.
Academicianul Leon Dănăilă are la activ 30.000 de intervenţii neurochirurgicale, adică echivalentul triplului populaţiei Darabaniului. El introduce în practica chirurgicală românească microscopul operator şi laserul, fiind primul în lume ca număr de operaţii anevrismale efectuate.
Prof. Acad. Leon Dănăilă a fost selectat în anul 2000 în cadrul proiectului “capsula timpului” în rândul primilor 500 de savanţi contemporani. Capsula conţine scurte prezentări biografice şi contribuţii ştiinţifice ale celor selectaţi, este îngropată la Cambridge şi urmează a fi deschisă peste 50 de ani în prezenţa urmaşilor acestor personalităţi, spre a servi ca model.
