Misterul vechii biserici

O monografie a Darabaniului, publicată în anii 1930, susţine că vechea biserică din centrul oraşului ar fi fost realizată după planurile uneia dintre cele mai mari biserici ale creştinătăţii,  Sfânta Sofia din Istanbul. Teoria ridică unele semne de întrebare.

Puţinii turişti care ajung în oraşul în apropierea căruia se agăţă harta în cui au parte de un obiectiv care, potrivit unor surse documentare, ar putea fi unicat în lume şi de o valoare inestimabilă. Când vii cu maşina dinspre Botoşani nu trebuie să rulezi mai mult de un minut ca să ajungi în centrul micului târg. Acolo, pe partea dreaptă a drumului, se înalţă biserica veche a oraşului. Este o construcţie bizantină,  fapt inedit pentru bisericile din nordul Bucovinei, iar legenda care înconjoară locaşul este impresionantă.

CELE DOUĂ BISERICI. Acum câteva zeci de ani, nordicul oraş era plin de locase de cult.  Evreii – cu ale lor, creştinii – cu ale lor.  Astăzi, nu mai există nici o sinagogă în Darabani şi mai sunt doar două biserici.  Localnicii nu le încurcă niciodată: cea din centru, construcţie realizată în secolul al XIX-lea e “biserica veche”,  în timp ce mai încolo, peste şoseaua naţională,  aproape de autogară, se află “biserica nouă”, înălţată imediat după Revoluţie.  Şoseaua naţională împarte şi enoriaşii celor două parohii. Cu “biserica nouă”, lucrurile sunt clare.  În 1989 exista un singur locaş de cult, “biserica veche”. Era în reconsolidare, dar lucrările avansau greu, banii lipseau, iar credincioşii au decis să construiască o nouă biserică. Locul ales a fost un imaş de dincolo de şoseaua naţională, iar lucrările au durat câţiva ani.

MINUNI . Pe lângă forma deosebită şi misterioasă,  Biserica Sfântul Nicolae din Darabani mai ascunde un lucru inedit. Icoana Sfântului Spiridon, situată în apropierea altarului, aduce belşug şi fericire celor care se roagă.  “Este, într-adevăr, o icoană deosebită, este foarte mare şi îl reprezintă pe Sfântul Ierarh Spiridon.   Nu se ştie , dar cel  probabil a fost   de la construcţie în patrimoniului bisericii. Am încercat să aflu  multe despre originea ei , dar nu am găsit nicăieri vreo referire. Enoriaşii mi-au spus  că s-au rugat pentru înţelepciune, pentru iertarea păcatelor, pentru ajutor  la examene şi  alte lucruri bune iar dorinţele le-au fost împlinite”, a spus părintele Dumitru Avirvarei. Dar cel mai important  este faptul că  biserica a fost ctitoria lui Theodor Bals, întemeietorul moşiei Darabani. Construcţia a început în 1834 şi s-a terminat în 1840. O monografie din 1937 a oraşului Darabani lansează o teorie surprinzătoare asupra construirii bisericii. Potrivit autorului Emil Costeanu, avocat doctor în Drept şi fost primar al oraşului, Biserica Sfântul Nicolae ar fi o copie fidelă în miniatură a impunătoarei Biserici Sfânta Sofia, construită în primul mileniu de împăraţii Bizanţului şi devenită moschee după căderea Constantinopolului. “Însuşi Theodor Balş s-a deplasat la Constantinopol, de unde s-a întors cu autorizaţie obţinută personal de la patriarh de a înălţa la Darabani o biserică-replică în miniatură a Sfintei Sofia”, se arată în monografia oraşului. Ipoteza pare a fi susţinută de arhitectonică bisericii. Biserica are trei cupole. Cea mare, de deasupra naosului, are la bază o piramidă octogonală şi formă semisferică. Nu are nici un fel de bare de susţinere, ca şi cupolele de la Sfântă Sofia. Nu există însă nici un document care să certifice sau să infirme această legendă. Arhiva bisericii a fost distrusă în timpul celui de-al doilea război mondial, când preoţii au decis să o mute la o biserică din Teleorman. Trenul care transporta documentele a fost bombardat, iar întreaga arhivă a fost distrusă. Poate că adevărul despre construirea bisericii – refăcută de mai multe ori, ultima dată în 1989 – nu va ieşi niciodată la iveală.
