Manifestările culturale  locale în trecutul Darabanilor însumează emanaţii  ale literaturii orale în cea mai mare parte, cântece populare, urături, adevărate expresii ale realităţilor sociale ale vremii.

Mai întâi de toate trebuie amintit un cântec popular cu origini locale, anume “Sârba de la Darabani“ al cărui început este încă necunoscut. Cert este că el a fost  remarcat odată cu  apariţia, după 1960 a fanfarei oraşului, condusă de prof. Mihai Suciu. Din păcate nu suntem în posesia unei înregistrări a cântecului interpretat de fanfară, care fără îndoială ar fi fost impresionantă.

Un alt material autohton remarcabil este “Urătura” culeasă pentru “Chestionarul despre tradiţiunile istorice şi anticităţile ţerilor locuite de români” iniţiat de Densuşianu, de către Ion Postulache în 1896. Urătura a fost auzită din gura unui ţăran localnic, C-tin Murariu,  are 700 de versuri şi a fost publicată de către Nicolae Debsuşianu în “Revista critico- literară” , în 1896 ca semn de recunoaştere a valorii ei,  cu menţiunea ” poemă plină de acţiuni şi foarte remarcabilă prin lungimea ei”.

Mai jos reproducem câteva cântece populare originare din Darabani:

” Scoalî, scoalî papalugă” , Iacob Violeta, 16 ani, 1980 – cântec de adus ploaia
“Scoală, scoală, Papalugă
Şî te suie pe portiţă,
Ca să cadă o ploiţă
Şi să crească foiliţă
Scoală, scoală, Papalugă,
Şi te suie pe fîntînă,
Ca să ploai-o săptămînă;
Să curgă pîraili
Să creascî popşoaili.”
” Sînt din locuri moldovene”, Ciubotaru Floarea, 24 ani 1979
“Foicică din poienie,
Sînt din locuri moldovene,
DE pe malul Prutului,
Unde-i casa Dorului.
Sa la la la la la la la la la la
I-auzi i-auzi ia, zii bădiţ-aşa
Tra.ila ila ila ila ila ila la
Împreună, amândoi, măi
Di-aşa mult ce ne iubim,
Râdem numai şi glumim
Cînd îl supăr cîteodată,
Îl sărut şi-i trece-odată.
Of cînd stau şi mă gîndesc,
Numai eu îl necăjesc.”
Vom reveni cu câteva capodopere populare, culese de la străbunici şi care acum sunt în faza de cercetare.
