Pasiunea pentru fotbal are şi ea, la fel cum au multe dintre lucrurile frumoase din Darabani, rădăcini adânci in istoria locală.
Încă din 1950 jucătorii de fotbal din localitatea de pe malul Prutului sunt denumiţi “vulturi” după numele primei echipe “Vulturul Darabani”. Începând cu acest an va dăinui o echipă de fotbal iubită de toţi, se vor schimba generaţii de jucători, fiecare trăind momente unice la timpul lor. Tuturor le aducem mulţumiri pentru ce au făcut, iar astăzi ne face plăcere să-i amintim pe cât mai mulţi dintre ei.

La începuturile sale echipa “Vulturul Darabani” era înscrisă în campionatul sătesc, aşa cum menţionează învăţ. Lică Axinte, o divizie echivalentă campionatului judeţean de astăzi. Echipa juca în zilele de sărbătoare cu echipele din comunele învecinate, formaţii de amatori din Raionul Darabani.
Meciurile se disputau pe terenul aflat pe suprafaţa actualei Judecătorii, fiind mutat apoi lângă Baza de Recepţie şi Aerodrom.
Iniţiativa formării echipei o are se pare Anatolie Bobrov, vicepreşedinte al Sfatului Popular Raional Darabani, sprijinit îndeaproape de învăţătorul Lică Axinte şi prof. Gheorghe Golescu.
În această primă perioadă trebuie amintită calificarea în finala Cupei Moldovei în ediţia 1956-1957, când echipa din Darabani pierde titlul în faţa echipei din Târgu Frumos (scor 2-4).
Amintim aici jucătorii primei echipe “Vulturul Darabani”:
- Constantin Pantazie și Valentin Nistor (portari);
- Iancu Moise, Ştrulică, Fănică Matei, Hrimiuc Dumitru (fundaşi);
- Anatolie Bobrov, Constantin Simirad, Sandu Hulupţuc (mijlocaşi);
- fraţii Eugen şi Lică Dembrovschi, Lică Axinte, Gheorghe (Didiță) Colescu (atacanți);
Echipa se destramă odată cu desfiinţarea Raionului Darabani prin anii ‘60, dar în paralel, odată cu înfiinţarea Liceului Darabani în 1957, se dezvoltă a doua echipă a oraşului. “Ştiinţa Darabani” funcţionează ca o pepinieră pentru echipa mare, din lotul Ştiinţei promovând la echipa mare : Gheorghe Ghebac (portar), Eugen Moga, Mircea Cuciuc, Galaction Ciopron, Ion Moga, Miluţă Budai.
“Vulturul” dispare prin anii ‘ 62 ca urmare a destrămării lotului şi odată cu el şi “Ştiinţa ” îşi pierde din importanţă. În 1968 “Vulturul” se reînfiinţează sub denumirea de “Sănătatea Darabani” şi se înscrie în Campionatul Judeţean. Începe o perioadă de dominare a peisajului fotbalistic judeţean alături de Victoria Botoşani, cu care împarte primele două locuri.
“Sănătatea Darabani” antrenată de Lică Axinte câştigă de 3 ori campionatul dar nu poate spera la promovare datorită neomologării terenului de joc, care constituie o mare problemă şi în ziua de astăzi. Echipa stă la început sub patronajul Spitalului, un rol important avându-l doctorul Sigismund Albert care sugerează şi numele echipei.
Din lotul “Sănătăţii” amintim:
- Prodan Corneliu, Rumega Radu, Caldare Dumitru (portari);
- Negru Dumitru, Stancoschi Remus, Rablic Vasile, Ion Zaharia (fundaşi);
- Chelaru Niculiţă, Lohan Nicolae, Scutaru Constantin, Teişanu Constantin (mijlocaşi);
- Teişanu Victor, Stoian Constantin, Chirilă Gheorghe, Moga Corneliu (atacanţi);
Lotul este îmbunătăţit pe parcurs cu alţi jucători de valoare: Vasile Constantin, Cornea Dragoş, Chirica Puşcaşu, Dănălache Mihai, Cocriş Ilie, Tofan Constantin, Gagu Florentin.
Generaţia anilor ‘80 marchează o nouă etapă în istoria fotbalului dărăbănean cu jucători ca: Stoian Gheorghe (Şubi), Dragută Gheorghe, Octav Teioşanu, Hrimiuc Vasile, Ştefănică Vasile, Şodrângă Gheorghe, Domoco Viorel, Caleapa, Dinu Stoian, Hrimiuc Ilie, Afloroaie (”Mască”), Mihai Onofrei, Cristi Caldare.
Această generaţie de jucători căştigă campionatul şi se califică în faze superioare ale Cupei României, jucând cu echipe divizionare B.
După Revoluţia din 1989 echipa se reînfiinţează sub diferite denumiri: “Sănătatea”, ” Star 2000 Darabani” şi în prezent CS Darabani. Momentan echipa locală trece prin momente grele, dar cu siguranţă se vor găsi iubitori ai sportului care îi vor da din nou gura de oxigen necesară.
Toţi cei care au amintiri frumoase, poze cu echipa de fotbal a oraşului, sau dintre cei care au legături straînse cu echipa şi au fost omişi din prezentarea noastră – fără intenţie- sunt rugaţi să reanime spiritul a ceea ce a rămas pentru vecie Vulturul Darabani.
