Primele semne ale existenţei umane în zonă datează din Paleoliticul Inferior (Al. Gonţa, Satul în Moldova Medievală) atestate prin unelte din piatră descoperite în dreapta Prutului, apoi în Paleoliticul Superior prin aşezarea de la Terasa Prutului şi Darabani – Iazul Bălăşescu.

Urmele materiale urmează cursul istoriei şi întâlnim bogate vestigii neolitice, obiecte ceramice ale culturii Cucuteni,  care continuă şi astăzi să iasă la iveală pe terenurile agricole. În neolitic (cultura Horodiştea), există descoperiri la Eşanca -Vatra Satului  şi Eşanca-Budăi, Lişmăniţa-Dealul Urlei, Darabani-Lucoviţa , Darabani -Iazul lui Cuzin şi Darabani-Dealul Ţiganului. Despre Valea -Ieşancă aminteşte arheologul Alexandru Odobescu în ” Note de Călătorie”, specificând faptul că aici se distinge un vechi aşezământ de sat părăsit.

În Epoca Bronzului continuitatea este dovedită de diverse pluguri, seceri cu butoane, săbii şi vârfuri cu lance descoperite în câteva aşezări: Eşanca, Lucoviţa şi Iazul lui Cuzin. Trecerea la Epoca Fierului este marcată prin descoperiri de tip Latene la Darabani-Iaz Bălăşescu şi la Dealul Ţintei. Locuitorii acestui ţinut au făcut parte din statul dac centralizat al lui Burebista şi apoi din cel condus de  Decebal. După războiul din 105-106  în zonă sunt atestate urme ale existenţei dacilor liberi. Începând cu sec III şi pe toata durata mileniului I e.n este dovedită locuirea acestui teritoriu în ciuda valurilor migratoare care au trecut pe aici.

Perioada Migraţiilor este atestată prin descoperiri la Dealul Urlei, Iazul lui Cuzin, Lanul Mocăniţei, iazul Bălăşescu, Delaul Ţintei, Bajura-Pădurea Conceşti.

În Epoca Medievală vestigii întâlnim la: Eşanca, Delaul Urlei, Lucoviţa, Lanul Mocăniţei, Dealul Ţintei.

Perioada Modernă se remarcă printr-un eveniment care s-a făcut cunoscut la nivel naţional şi internaţional şi anume conflictul local dintre evrei şi români. În timpul răscoalei de la 1907 revolta dărăbănenilor cunoaşte amplitutidini la fel de importante ca cea din Flămânzi. Pezenţa locuitorilor din Darabani este certă în cel de-al 2-lea război balcanic, unde au murit 4 localnici.

Dărăbănenii au luat parte şi la luptele  celor două războaie mondiale, existând circa 200 de eroi căzuţi pe câmpul de luptă în primul război şi 122 în cea de-a doua conflagraţie.
