Glăsuiește pravila după mărturiile cele vechi luminate, ce nici de cum nu ne lasă să fim de îndoială, cum că în zâlele noastre plinire de un veac ajuns să face d’întru începutu Darabanilor.
În primăvara anului 1937 dărăbănenii pregăteau sărbătoarea de 100 de ani de la înființarea târgului. În „Poftirea” oficială, ale cărei prime rânduri sunt citate mai sus, organizatorii s-au străduit, folosind un limbaj specific acelor vremuri, să reînvie atmosfera secolului al XIX-lea, când a fost emis actul de întemeiere a Darabanilor.
Domnul Cusin, primarul orașului la acele vremuri și totodată președintele comitetului de organizare a centenarului, a trimis invitații de participare „tuturor șefilor de autorități și personalităților marcante din întreaga Moldovă” („Curentul”, București, 15 iunie 1937).
„Serbarea s’a făcut într-un cadru măreț, cu participarea și a d-lui M. Negură, Ministrul Cooperației – un fiu al acestui târg […] în ziua de Luni 21 Iunie a.c.” („Lumea”, Iași, 23 iunie 1937). Mai multe detalii despre cum s-a desfășurat sărbătoarea centenarului aflăm din ziarele vremii.
„La ora 9.30 dim. toate școlile din comună, autoritățile comunale, polițienești, judecătorești, fiscale și un public numeros din localitate și comune învecinate s’au adunat în fața palatului administrativ (conacul Balș – n.r.)” (Dimineața, București, 27 iunie 1937).
În acordurile muzicale ale Regimentului 4 Vânători Lipscani, mulțimea s-a deplasat apoi către biserica Sf. Nicolae, unde a avut loc o slujbă comemorativă pentru Theodor Balș, întemeietorul Darabanilor și ctitorul bisericii. „Dela biserică, într’un frumos cortegiu de câteva mii de oameni, în frunte cu preoții și praporele bisericii, s’a pornit spre cimitirul vechiu, unde au fost pomenite sufletele celor cari au trăit pe vremea întemeierii târgului și bisericii” (Universul, București, 27 iunie 1937).
A urmat, de la ora 12:30, defilarea. „Subcentrul premilitar, străjerii, școlile primare, membrii uniunei generale a meseriașilor au defilat în fața bisericii Sf. Neculai”. Apoi, de la 13:30, la sala de recepție a palatului comunal (vechiul conac al logofătului Balș) a început banchetul centenarului, „cu peste 100 de tacâmuri”, după cum susțin publicațiile vremii. Primarul Cusin a dat citire scrisorilor primite „dela descendenții familiei Balș și de la diferiți invitați cari n’au putut lua parte la eveniment” (Universul). „După binecuvântare parohului, primul tuast în sănătatea M.S. Regelui a fost ridicat de primarul I. Cusin, care a dat cetire telegramei ocazionale ce Li s’a expediat, asistența ovaționându-L, a ascultând apoi în picioare Imnul Regal” (Tribuna Liberă, Dorohoi, 14 iulie 1937).
După banchet audiența a vizitat două expoziții: prima, de lucru manual, organizată de școala de fete, iar a doua, de antichități, pregătiră de către avocatul Emil Costeanu. „D. Emil Poenaru, directorul școalei primare, a făcut un scurt istoric al școalei, iar d. avocat Emil Costeanu a făcut istoricul târgului” (Universul).
„De la 5 la 9 seara, muzica militară a cântat în grădinița din fața bisericii Sf. Neculai. A urmat retragerea cu torțe. La ora 10 seara a avut loc în saloanele primăriei un bal la care a luat parte un public numeros” (Dimineața). „Sărbătorirea centenarului a fost în totul reușită și a lăsat o amintire neștearsă în mintea localnicilor și a vizitatorilor. Se cuvine cinste deosebită dlor primar I. Cusin și avocat Emil Costeanu (principalii organizatori – n.r.)” (Universul).
Acum, la aproape 75 de ani de la sărbătoarea centenarului, putem privi în urmă cu mândrie. Mai toate marile publicații ale vremii au alocat spații generoase centenarului Darabanilor, relatând în detaliu și fără economie de aprecieri desfășurarea sărbătorii din nordul Moldovei. Pe lângă ziarele din care am citat pe parcursul acestui articol, și „Lumea” (Iași), „Viitorul” (București), „Curentul” (București) au folosit prilejul și pentru a face prezentări sau scurte istorii ale târgului, lăudând comunitatea locală pentru pentru realizările sale.
Să ne vedem cu bine peste 25 de ani, la bicentenar. Ce spuneți, atunci, în 2037, câte din ziarele importante ale României vor scrie despre Darabani?
